Week 1: The Week Claude Got Me Through

Too much work, too little people to deliver it to your customers. If that sentence just made you wince, you’re not alone — it’s exactly where I found myself this week.

I want to be honest about how I got through it: I don’t think I could have survived this week’s volume of work without Claude sitting right there with me. I used it for data analysis, and watching it work, I was genuinely impressed. It’s cheaper than bringing on another person, and it’s faster to implement than you’d think.

Here’s the thing about AI tools — they all carry that little disclaimer line: “AI can make mistakes, please check this work.” I take that seriously. I check everything. And after checking it, what I’ve noticed over the last few months is that the quality keeps getting better and better. It’s well worth investing time into learning these tools properly.

I know a lot of us are battling unemployment here in South Africa, and I think about that a lot when I talk about AI. But here’s my honest take: if we can make our businesses more profitable, that creates room for more jobs, not fewer. More work comes your way, and you end up with the budget to bring on more people — not less.
